| Description: | Second time at San Juan, I decided to make it into a loop, up Hwy 76 to Chiquito trailhead, this trail up, to Viejo Tie trail, on San Juan to Blue Jay campground and on San Juan all the way back to the car parked at the lower San Juan trailhead. The ride up the highway was scary since the road has no shoulder. Fortunately there was a construction and cars were moving in clusters, which gave me some freedom. At the Upper San Juan campground I found spur to the San Juan loop trail, rode it to Chiquito trailhead. The rest of the loop down canyon to Chiquito trail turnoff has numerous big rocks and is pretty hard to ride. Chiquito is similar, I was walking quite a bit. Only once the trail reached the canyon floor about 2/3 up the trail got quite smooth and fun to ride. Viejo Tie was reasonable too, as well as upper part of San Juan. The lower parts are quite eroded with many ruts, but most of it still decent to ride. My eTrex Legend GPS died on this ride, so the track shows only Chiquito and upper San Juan. The blue is taken from previous track. | |
