Name:E100/4
Description:On Sat. Aug. 25th I went to the Canyons for a ride. The plan was to loop Midmountain and the Crest. I started early, about 8.30am, and, at the base of the Canyons, ran into the E100 race. The people were reasonably dispersed (they started at Park City at 6am and already had 20 miles in). I followed the pack the whole Stage 2 (ca. 23 miles) on Ambush Trail to Midmountain and then down some to Park City. Here I talked a bit to some volunteers which reminded me to yield to the racers (yeah, most of them were yielding to me ;-) ). I continued with the race for a bit longer, climbing up Spiro. At the midmountain junction we parted, I went up to Shadow lake and the Crest, they went on Midmountain. I met the winner of the race at Shadow Lake loop, he was already doing Stage 4. Then it was just several weekend warriors on the Crest. I descended down parly Ambush and partly Rob's and something else trails back to the Canyons.
Overall, a great ride, it does make it worth it to drive to the Canyons or PC sometime, it turned out to just be about 25 min drive one way, which is much better than 3 hours on the bike, with the bonus of having fresh legs.
Looking back at the E100, it's pretty monstrous. Most of the people from the pack I was with (and I did pass most of them) did not finish. Looking at the times people did the second stage, I would probably take 15 hours to do it, and that discounts possible fatigue, etc, at the end. Still, if all goes well, I may try to ride at least part of it next year, especially since now they have all the feed stations but one in Park City, which is easier logistically than when they had then also in Deer Valley.
