Description: | On Sunday before heading home we joined Lorrie and Dan for a hike in the Snowy Range - mountains between Encampment and Laramie. The plan was not to do anything too serious, but, we ended up on Medicine Bow Peak trail which heads in about 4 miles ot the highest point in the range. The trail was good except for the last stretch that was snowy and a bit exposed. That's where we parted with Lorrie and Dan and thought on continuing further to descend onto Lake trail on the other side of the mountain. But, the trail was snow covered so we missed it and I ended up carrying our dog RIley for a while over boulder fields after we realized our mistake. Since I was getting pretty tired from carrying the 60 lb dog, we opted for return on the known trail, that is, backtracking our steps.
Overall a good hike that I was not thinking we'll end up doing, the flip side being misjudging the trail suitablility for the dog and paying the price for it with achy back. |
