My name is Jennifer North, and I am a second-year graduate student pursuing a Master's degree in Nutrition at the University of Utah with an emphasis in Nutrition Education and Research. I will soon complete the requirements of this program and will graduate in summer 2014. Shortly after, I plan to sit for the Registered Dietitian Exam.
I completed my undergraduate degree in 2008 in Psychology. In 2012 I began the CMP program at the University of Utah, and have enjoyed every minute since. My passions are broad, encompassing community education, wellness, medical nutrition therapy, as well as cooking and eating! As components of my Supervised Practice hours, I had the opportunity to work at WIC as a community setting, the University Neuropsychiatric Institute for foodservice management, and the University of Utah Hospital and Huntsman Cancer Institute for clinical work. I've found my background in Psychology to be a perfect complement to education and counseling in all of these settings.
A native of Utah, my other interests include camping, hiking, travel, and spending time with my two dogs and family--all while enjoying and sharing the food that I love!
I have 600+ hours of clinical dietetic experience at Huntsman Cancer Institute and University Hospital, including nutrition support, renal, transplant, cardiac, oncology, and intensive care patients.
My volunteer and community work is varied and diverse, including working as a nutrition educator for refugee populations in Salt Lake City, providing nutrition counseling at health fairs and at the University of Utah's nutrition clinic, and working with the aging population at the Sarah Daft Home.
My Focused Area of Study Project is underway at the University of Utah, titled Nutrition Informatics: Development of Topics for a Graduate Dietetic Course & Preparation of a Systematic Review Paper for Publication.
