Description: | A hike in the Columbia River gorge on the drive back to Boise. The plan was to spend a couple of hours hiking before sitting in the car for 7 hours. For a change it was not raining and it actually cleared up during the hike so we ended up seeing sunny skies for the first time of my stay in Portland. Since I looped around Multnomah falls before, the choice fell to nearby Horsetail falls. We parked the car a bit before the falls and got onto another trail that approached the falls from the west. In Oneonta gorge we headed up some to see Triple Falls, named aptly since there are three streams going down. Then we went down to Oneonta Falls and then through some more rainforest and some dripping rocks to Upper Horsetail Falls, which are unique in that the trail goes through an overhang behind the falls. Then we dropped down back to the road and checked out the actual Horsetail falls, and then walked on the road back to the car. Overall a great short hike to see 4 nice waterfalls and the for us unique rainforest environment. |
