Description: | Wednesday morning I woke up to partly sunny skies so I decided to take off for a ride right after breakfast. It was chilly with strong southerly winds but manageable, the occasional sun helped quite a bit. I headed north towards Columbia river on a series of roads with bike routes or bike lanes. The only hard part was a detour on Vancouver St. which lead me to a quite busy road. Once I got to the Columbia, I headed east on River St. This road has a bike lane but had quite heavy truck traffic which was not too pleasant. I was glad to get onto a bike path north of the airport. The path follows the river to I-205. There I went south on the path that was built alongside I-205. It was quite pleasant ride except for occasional level crossings with busy streets where one had to wait for the signal. Then, being a good Czech, I headed west to Mount Tabor park, which is on a small hill covered with conifers. So, there was not much of a view there except for a small break towards the downtown. Then I went to the Holywood area just to check it out, there is a big new Trader Joes there, the old one where shopped before is gone. From here to the downtown I was searching for some takeout mexican food without a success so I had to go with Wendy's that's close to the convention center. That has concluded the ride, which was fairly good given the rainy weather. I especially enjoyed the bike paths which let one to turn off the alertness and thus enjoy the ride more. |
