Name: | Little, Big and Bald Mountain Epic |
|
Description: | A long ride from the town to connect together many shorter trails into a day long adventure. Met at the mouth of Emigration Cyn. and rode it up for a warmup. Then on the Little Mountain Trail and onto a brutal climb up to just below Lookout Peak. Then onto an overgrown singletrack around Mountain Dell Cyn. drainages, Swallow Rocks, Big Mountain and down to Big Mountain Pass. Here we had a late lunch and refilled water from a cache. Got free Red Bull which tastes like crap. Up on GWT to Bald Mountain and up and down almost to Parley's Summit, turned left onto series of singletracks dropping to Jeremy Ranch posh neighborhoods. On East Canyon road about 5 miles to Little Cottonwood Cyn Trailhead (still can't understand why would someone want to drive all the way there to start a ride/hike). Up Little Cottonwood on Mormon trail, not too steep but somewhat torturing with 2500 m vertical on our backs already. Second refill at Big Mountain Pass (I drank 1 L of gatorade and longed for crappy Red Bull to wake me up). Down Mormon Trail was a blast in the upcoming evening. Up from Affleck Park to the "Four Corner" pass was quite torturing, but descent down Killyon Canyon was a remedy. Down Emigration Cyn. was hurting too thanks to Mike's killing speed. What else to add? Probably just that I beated my longest MTB ride record by a couple of miles and stayed few hundred feet shy of the vertical record. A positive development in the pattern of these rides is that I still was able to water my garden and watch a movie outside that evening. | |
