Name: | Black Dragon Wash and Jackass Benches loop |
|
Description: | Black Dragon Wash is one of canyons that pierce San Rafael Reef. This one is just north of I-70, with easy access off I-70 on a non-exit dirt road. I combined riding up and down the wash with a loop on dirt roads around Jackass Benches and two side trips to check out trailheads to San Rafael river's Lower Black Box. Ride starts at where the wash exits the Reef, the deepest canyon is in the first 1/2 mile or so. Then canyon opens up and there's quite bit of climbing, though relatively gradual. In about 6 miles, the Jackass Benches loop road comes, I went north, dropped to the two trailheads, which made for substantial detour, and then rode back. A candy at the end of the ride is a slickrock ramp at the Black Dragon entrance described here. | |
