Name: | Oil Well Flat - North Coal Wash - Devils Racetrack - Cane Wash grand loop |
|
Description: | An attempt to combine ATV trails and dirt roads in the area into a good sized loop. Turned out to be a sort of figure 8 shaped, so, obviously, it can be split into two loops, or even less than that. Started at a cozy campsite off Cottonwood Draw road, and rode the road south to Oil Well Flat road and on that further south till it turned into ATV track and dropped into Cane Wash. Up Cane Wash about 1.5 miles and right out of the wash towards a short venture into Saddle Horse Canyon and to Fix It Pass. From here to North Coal Wash, and down the wash to intersection with Devils Racetrack. Up the Racetrack to Dutchman Arch (details and fotos of section from Fix It Pass to Dutchman arch are here). Some exploring of the network of roads in the Head of Sinbad area north of I-70 and south of sandstone statue hills. Then hit an ATV track that sidetracks upper Cane Wash and after about 3 miles eventually drops into the wash. This is followed by prolonged ride through the wash. It's mostly alright riding, somewhat bone rattling, the bottom is gravely, but there were some quite loose spots. The worst part is about the middle third. It's good 12.5 miles down the wash till the WSA boundary and sharp turn right onto an old mining road and back to the base camp. Quite an epic. Met only two couples of ATVs on the whole ride... | |
