Description: | The motorcycle trails in Iron Wash area are marked by colors. Red is mostly the famous Five Miles of Hell. Orange is a nice rolling singletrack with several harder sections, Blue and Green are pretty mellow.
This loop is in my opinion one of the best options one can do. Starting near the Twin Knolls trailehead, down on Red Trail to Iron Wash is the hardest, though not as bad as 5 miles of Hell. Iron Wash is locally loose, and the ride out of it is more of a hike, since the motorbikes have the slope pretty churned up. Hitting the Orange trail, I went east a bit to explore, the trail is pretty nice and smoot there. Going west, it's mostly smooth too, though there are some rougher spots. First bailout is offered by Blue trail, I haven't ridden it yet, but, it's a doubletrack on a map, so, it should be pretty easy. Then there's another two nice miles on Orange Trail (including a nice wash section) till the Green trail intersection. Orange continues towards Temple Mountain, I rode it once and remember it being a relatively bone rattling descent, followed by long series of dirt roads back to Twin Knolls. The Green Trail goes up a bit, but, the change is only say 200 m on the 6 miles or so of trail, so, it goes pretty fast. A small hill past the intersection with Blue trail, nothing too hard. Then there's fast doubletracks and dirt roads back to Twin Knolls. |
