Name:Monument Creek and New Santa Fe trails
Description:The big tandem ride of our Colorado Springs visit. The plan was to ride the two above mentioned trails, also called Pikes Peak Greenway, as far as we can go.
The start was again at our hosts house, we took the new overpass over the freeway to get to Monument Park and then headed north on Monument Creek trail. The trail goes along the creek, crossing small roads and going under big roads. We stopped at a bike shop conveniently located at a shopping center alongside the trail, unsuccessfully trying to get a city bicycling map. They have one on the website, but, apparently it does not exist in print. Shortly after that, we entered the danger zone called US Air Force Academy. The trail here is pretty, meandering through thin pine forest. We endured two flats, and continued on to Monument. At this trailhead, we were ready to refill our water, but, the water fountains were not running. So, we continued to Palmer Lake, the trail terminus. The water situtation here was the same, so, we went back to Monument, and got stuff to drink at a Taco Bell next to the freeway exit. Refreshed, we headed back home, the ride back was pretty smooth and fast thanks to slow decline grade.
