| Description: | On the first day of our spring trip to Moab we hiked around the Upheaval Dome, which is located in the Island in the Sky district of Canyonlands NP. Upheaval Dome is an intrusion which is either a meteorite crater or a salt dome, depending on whom you ask. In any case, the loop around it does not give one much of the look at the crater, but, it goes through a couple of good canyons and impressive drop down Syncline Valley and then up back to the plateau. At the bottom there is a spur to the center of the dome that would be easily done on a day hike, if my back were not acting. In any case, this is a good day hike in the Canyonlands. |
