Name:Lake Creek Trail
Details:A ride in the southern part of Copper Basin. The highlights are quite alpine scenery with jagged peaks and several quite large lakes. The trail was designed for motorcycles in the 80s, now also allows ATVs. So, it is a bit eroded, but not too much. Riding was still quite nice. And, due to the fact that I did the ride on Monday morning, I met only one Forest Service ATV on the whole trail. Weekends get probably busier, but, I still would not expect more than dozen ATVs in the whole day. The trail starts at a semi-developed trailhead right off the Copper Basin loop road. There are several picnic tables and a water pump. The ATV track climbs up the valley, occasionally crossing small streams on bridges or wooden platform. The upper part of the trail is a loop, that I recommend to do counterclockwise. It first clims vicious 250 vertical meters to a junction, go right to first several lakes, of which Big Lake is the largest. Then back to the junction, up and down to Rough Lake, then Long Lake and finally Round Lake (there are short spurs towards and around each lake). After that follows descent down the canyon all the way to the trailhead. I was very pleased with this trail, it was a perfect end of a perfect weekend.
