Name: | Riding around Continental Divide |
|
Description: | Over Labor Day weekend, we camped with the family at Wade Lake, about 10 miles north of Idaho border and 30 miles west of West Yellowstone. I have looked on the map to come up with some decent loops, but, the lake is pretty much enclosed. So, we ended up riding a lolipop shaped loop. We started at the lake, and rode south on Horn Creek Road to Hwy 87. Then on the highway towards Henrys Lake, turning to road on its north shore. The road turns into Red Rocks road, which goes to a pass of the same name and then to Red Rock Lakes area. We turned north at the pass and went on the continental divide several miles. Near Saddle Mountain, we turned left on a relatively rough doubletrack and on it dropped to Antelope Basin. The scenery in this area was quite amazing. We passed group of ranchers that offered us a beer. Despite being low on water we refused, partly due to their dog which was too friendly, and partly due to rough road that required concentration. A few ups and downs on the Antelope Basin road took us back to Reynolds Pass and Hwy 87. From here we retraced our steps to Horn Creek Road and back to the campground. Overall one of the best rides we did on the tandem so far, very scenic, mostly good roads and right weather. | |
