Description: | Mid week in Boise meant oportunity to explore dirt roads in the mountains without much of motorized traffic. So, I designed about 60 mile loop starting just out of Idaho City exploring some river valleys to the west.
Started climbing Granite Creek road, which is 2wd and reasonably smooth. Got to Rabbit Creek summit and then rode down Rabbit Creek to its confluence with North Fork Boise River. This downhill was rather rattly, lot of washboards and holes in the road (which was still good for 2wd cars). The first stretch of road up Boise River was rougher too, but, then it smoothed up. It was nice to ride along the river that flows along steep hills. 15 miles or so later I parted with Boise River and climbed up north to another summit. Also this climb was on a fairly smooth dirt. This changed on the downill towards Crooked River and then along the river more down. This road had lot of loose gravel and washboards, which made the downhill quite unpleasant. So, I was happy to finally hit paved Hwy 21. The climb to Mores Creek Summit was a bit tough mainly because I was getting dehydrated and hungry. I ate two bars at the top which was enough to power me on the downhill all the way down back to the car. |
