Description: | Chalk Creek goes east from Coalville all the way to Wyoming, and there's a paved road to Wyoming border, about 28 miles up. The road is not too steep and not too busy which makes it popular with cyclists. We figured we'll try the dog trailer on this road.
Mid September Sunday was forecasted to be cloudy with high around 80, which sounded not too hot for our easily heated dog. We caused a bit of an interest from two local boys when setting up our rig at the Postal Service parking lot in Coalville. Then we set of, the ride was noticeably harder and slower thanks to the extra 100 lbs (80 lb dog and ca. 20 lb trailer). The road goes up and down, but, slowly climbs overa ll. It was rather windy with mostly tailwind on the way up and headwind on the way down. We were about ready to turn around when we reached Upton, ca. 11 miles up the road, but, we were looking for a good spot for a dog swim in the creek. Unfortunately, most of the creek access is gated by the farms. We finally found a decent access a few miles further up. Riley was quite excited to check out the environment so we had a few problems with controling her wandering. Then we loaded her back to the trailer, this time front facing which made her sit and check things out from the trailer window most of the way back. |
