Description: | Monday was supposed to be a warm day so I decided to head up to higher places to the northwest of our village. I took off at 10am and it was already fairly warm and humid. I rode through Lysice and Kunstat (both of which have castles, I took a few fotos only of the latter one). Then I headed to Rudka which has a man made cave with statues of knights from old Czech legend. It was closed since it was Monday (museums etc are closed Mondays). There was a talking device there to explain the history, etc. which was powered by hand crank, which was pretty cool. Then I broke the 2000 ft elevation mark on the way to Olesnice, the most remote town in our district. I decided to go a bit further and drop down to the valley of river Svratka to see the Vir reservoir. The town of Vir has the road pavement made of granite cubes, called cat heads in the local slang, which makes riding on it a bit of a pain. It's quite durable, though, I believe this one was laid out in the 30s or so. Then I rode down along Svratka for a while. A mishap happened in form of a wasp that flew into my helmet and stung me. In pain, I rode to the nearest pub (fortunately only a few kms away), and had some onion to put on the sting (which seemed to help since now it feels OK). Then I was getting tired but I still had 2 long hills to climb, one out of the Svratka valley and the other out of Lomnice. The plus of these hills though were nice views to the country side from the top of them. I got home just in time before a brewing thunderstorm brought a short Utah like shower to the area. |
