Name:Loop from Park City to Midway and back
Description:I had my monthly massage at Park City and the back was not feeling well enough for a full ride on the dirt, so, I figured I'll try a new loop with some singletrack in the end.
From PC I rode to Hwy 40, which is a freeway, and on that to the first exit in Heber Valley - on River Road. Hwy 40 sucks - it has rumble strips spaced about every 50 ft about 3 ft wide from the shoulder towards the driving lanes - I don't know what idiot came up with that design. So, I ended up climbing up 3 ft from the shoulder and about 3 ft from the 70 mph traffic, on the dowhill I went through the rumbles. On the top of that, there was a strong southerly wind so I was not going as fast as I wanted. Then I turned off to River Road, which was OK except for the head wind. Then I turned north up Springer Hollow on the state road that goes to Guardsman Pass and to Park City. This road is mostly gravel, and not very good gravel - somewhat loose. It's also quite steep, definitely steeper than the western Wasatch canyons . So, it was a 3000 vertical ft. of torture, at least there was not much traffic so I did not get dusted much. Finally having made it to the top, I had 45 minutes to descend to PC to catch the massage. So, I went down TG trail and then connected bunch of other ones to get to the road from Deer Valley to PC - I did not have time to go down Scott's trail which I originally planned. In either case, this was the only fun part of this ride, and too short.
Bottom line, I am not riding this loop again, it's much easier to just climb up one of the mining roads from PC.
