Name:Gould Rim - JEM - Hurricane Rim loop
Description:The primest singletrack loop in southwestern Utah, mainly thanks to the fact that about half of it is closed to anything but hikers and bikers. I rode the classic loop in counterclockwise direction.
The climb out of Hurricane was dry, but Gould Rim was wet at spots and in about three areas mud stuck to the tires. Not too bad, though a few days earlier it probably was much tougher. Upper part of JEM was quite messed up by some idiots on horses, the hooves made good 10 cm holes in the wet trail, sometimes it felt like riding in a minefield. Fortunately, the shakeup continued only to Sheep Bridge Road, the rest of JEM down was more-less smooth, except for occasional horseshoe holes. Same thing for Hurricane Rim, there was a group of horses going from the Equestarian Loop turnoff all the way to the Virgin Dam trailhead. Why don't the horserides stay on dirt roads when it's like this I don't understand. In any case, I had a good time though next time I'll probably finally try it in the other direction, since the Gould Rim will be mostly downhill with (hopefully) no horses.
