Name: | Sweetwater Reservoir loop |
|
Description: | Sweetwater Reservoir includes a county park on its south side, and is to certain extent encircled by dirt roads. I found about this loop off the web, and followed it to most part. Started at the county park, off Bonita and San Miguel Roads, then rode north on a dirt road and circled around a small hill on a singletrack. That one ended on a dirt road that descends to the valley west of the dam. The road to the dam was gated, so, I had to loop around the golf course on a relatively decent trail. Then found again a dirt road that went up the canyon towards the dam, and rode about another 2.5 miles on series of dirt roads that parallel the reservoir fence. The last dirt road ended up in the neighborhood, so, I had to backtrack on another dirt road to paved street and on several roads to the bridge over Sweetwater river. The trail from here back to the county park is a mix of singletrack with doubletrack, and occasional spurs to the hills, definitely worth exploring. There are a couple of short steep climbs as the trail goes down the valley. Overall, I would probably just ride the southern part out and back, finding some loop in the hills for the way back. | |
