Name:Cross country skiing on Grand Mesa
Description:The last day of our three day trip to SW Colorado was supposed to be the highlight thanks to the extensive trail system on Grand Mesa, and it did not disappoint. Although the weather was snowy, which tends to be annoying since my glasses fog, the trails were in excellent shape and a joy to ski on. Most of the trails were freshly groomed and had very good marking, hats off to the non-profit Grand Mesa Nordic Council which runs the show - it's doing better job than most ski resorts for less.
We started at the Skyway trailhead, and I then skied east on Lion's loop to Scales Lake road which connects to the other trail system at County Line. Here I skied the outermost loop on Dog Loop and onto Loop Three. From there I went to Kannah Crossing back to Skyway. This trail was not groomed recently so I had to stick in the skier made track which was not as nice. I was also getting tired. Still, I looped around the rest of the trails in Skyway to get back to the car tired but happy for the best skiing I had in a long time.
