Name:Ride in McDowell Mountain County Park
Description:On Monday we finally arrived to the Phoenix area and settled in Cindy and John's house. I already found out 2 years ago that the house is in a great location for access to trails in McDowell County Park and in the nearby McDowell Mountains Preserve. So, on a cloudy and relatively cool day the choice was not to work too hard on the climbs and ride in the County Park which is on a gentle eastern flank of McDowell Mountains.
I first rode through Fountain Hills onto Golden Eagle Blvd. I forgot about a few up and downs on this street, the last one is quite steep. At the trailhead I noticed a new map of the Fountain Hills section of the preserve which has added a few trails to the southern side which should be great to check out next time. Then I took Dixie Mine Trail into the county park and rode through most of the singletrack in the park on mostly fast and rolling and fairly wide singletrack. I concluded with 3.5 mile long Scenic trail on the eastern side which is a bit more rocky but also more singletracky. Then I just hopped on the road and rode back to the house.
Bottom line a great ride for the end of December and really for any time, Fountain Hills has a good amount of trails within riding distance from it which is great.
