March 8-9

  • A storm brought wind gusts reaching 46 m.p.h. at the U of U campus. Winds out of Parleys Canyon were up to 40 m.p.h.

    March 14-16

  • Weak weather impulses with tropical moisture from Hawaii brought 4-15 inches in the mountains.
  • March 6-10

  • High pressure creates stagnation along Wasatch Front. Lots of air pollution with night and morning fog.

    1994

    March 11-12

  • A storm system brought 5-9 inches in the Wasatch--Randolph tied its all time 24 hour snowfall record with 10 inches of snow, and set a new 24 hour precipitation record with 1.23 inches. Canyon winds struck on the 12th with gusts up to 71 m.p.h. in Centerville and 85 m.p.h at Ogden Peak. Some slight structural damage occurred in Centerville.

  • Dozens of record high temperatures were set these 3 days including; Ogden with 66 deg. F on the 14th, Alta with 52 deg. F on the 15th, and Park City with 57 deg. F on the 16th.

  • Storm system with up to 20-27 inches wet snow in the Wasatch - over 4 inches water equivalent in many areas.

  • Wind gusts of up to 55-60 m.p.h. in the Tooele Valley, some trees were uprooted.

  • Active cold front moves through with 35-50 m.p.h. winds at many Salt Lake Valley locations, along with hail covering the ground near Logan.

    1997

    March 11-12

  • Record warmth - Salt Lake City reached 71 deg. F on the 11th, Ogden had 69 deg. F on the 12th.

    1998

    March 7

  • Salt Lake City recorded a record low maximum temperature with only 27 deg. F in the afternoon.
  • Salt Lake City had a low of 14 deg. F on the 6th, 7th, and 8th.
  • March 8

  • This was a record cold morning with an all time March record in Randolph with -25 deg. F. Salt Lake City had another record low maximum temperature with 32 deg. F in the afternoon. All this cold weather came after a storm on the 6th and 7th dumped 5-12 inches of snow in the valleys with blowing snow.
  • March 14

  • Warm weather triggers avalanches -- 3 avalanches cover Little Cottonwood Canyon Road, one being massive and knocking 5 cars off the road along with partially burying a UTA bus. Five people were injured, one seriously.

  • Mudslide in Big Cottonwood Canyon partially covers the road.

    1999

    March 7-8

  • A weak storm system drops 4-8 inches of snow in the Wasatch with the most snow at Deer Valley.
  • March 9-10

  • A cold front passes through on the 9th with gusty winds, lightning, and hail all along the Wasatch Front. Several places reported hail up to .5 inches deep, 1-2 feet of snow at the resorts, with 1-6 inches of snow in the valleys.

  • More snow falls with 1-3 inches in the valleys and 4-6 inches in the mountains.

    March 8-10

  • Storm system brings 1-3 feet of snow in the mountains (35 inches at Alta) along with 2-6 inches in the valley.

  • A weak system drops 4-6 inches of snow in the mountains.

  • Another weak system dropped 4-11 inches at the ski resorts.

    2001

    March 9-11

  • 6-13 inches at the ski resorts with 1-4 inches in the valleys. 2 snowmobilers die in an avalanche.
  • March 14

  • Mountain snow. Very strong winds with 45 m.p.h. at Salt Lake Airport, 87 m.p.h. on Mt. Ogden, and 98 m.p.h. on Hidden Peak at the top of Snowbird.
  • March 16

  • Fast Moving system quickly drops 3-7 inches of snow in the Salt Lake Valley with around 1 foot of snow at the ski resorts.
