The Ozone Hole

Describe the causes for the ozone hole over Antarctica, why it forms during September and October, how the size and intensity of the hole has changed with time, why the ozone hole is of concern, and what steps are being taken to mitigate the problem.

Planning for the Future

The impacts of global warming were characterized as ones which could be adapted to (impacts have costs that can be mitigated), cause discomfort, lead to disaster for some, or result in catastrophe (irreversible damages to global ecosystem). Give one example of potential impacts that might happen which fall in each of the four categories and the degree to which you feel they are likely to happen. Provide a physical (scientific) explanation for the linkage between global warming and each impact. Why are some developing countries likely to face more serious consequences to global warming than many industrialized countries?
