has a number of on-line exhibits.
1. Discuss briefly the information on the Milankovitch hypothesis for ice ages available in the Illinois State Museum exhibit.
2. Search the Web for additional information on ice ages and discuss one relevant source.
The Ocean Planet
The Smithsonian Institution has an excellent Web page entitled Ocean Planet.
Access it through Chapter 6 in the Internet Companion.
Describe and discuss one of the exhibits in the area on the roles of the oceans in the climate system.
An article in the Atlantic Monthly discusses the role of the thermohaline circulation and how changes in that circulation may be associated with climate change. It is available here . Discuss briefly the hypothesis put forth that global warming could lead abruptly to an ice age.
