Purpose:
The public is bombarded with climate information. One of the best sources to review what has happened is the annual Climate Assessment issued by the Climate Prediction Center. The purpose of this assignment is to gain an appreciation for the types of climate information available and interpreting the significance of that informaiton.
Remember- grammar, spelling, syntax counts.

Read the Climate Assessment for 1999. You can also look at it in the June 2000 issue of BAMS.
Answer the following questions based on the information contained in that source (briefly).
- How did the 1999 global mean surface temperature compare to that of previous years? what about the U.S. mean temperature?
- How has the ozone concentration changed during the past 20 years in the U.S.? over the south pole?
- Was there anything significant about the rate of growth of CFCs in the atmosphere during 1999?
- What was the state of El Nino/La Nina during 1999? How did conditions over the tropical Pacific evolve during the year?
- What was the Atlantic hurricane season like during 1999? the eastern north Pacific hurricane season?
- Discuss briefly one other regional climate anomaly during 1999.
