Meteorology 3410: Assignment 2

Purpose:

To become familiar with Perl program syntax, access to Mesonet data, and conversion of moisture variables

Assignemt

  • look at some on-line resources on the Perl language such as Perl Language Home Page or O'Reilly web page
  • copy the template program /home/meteor/x/class/jhorel/3410/read_meso.pl to a subdirectory in your directory
  • become familiar with the program and create a Web page that contains current data from the University mesonet site (WBB).
  • create a link on your web page for the data web page created from the WBB site.
  • experiment with your program on other mesonet locations. modify the program to handle any error conditions that might occur
  • using the information provided in class, determine relative humidity from the temperature and dew point temperature.
  • using the information provided in class, determing the dew point temperature from temperature and relative humidity
  • create a new link to a new web page that contains the observed and computed dew point temperature and relative humidity
  • send email when your 2 pages are ready for me to check. include in the email a brief (1 paragraph) discussion of the changes in weather conditions at one site during a several hour period
