1. Estimate the component of gravitational acceleration along a slope of 1%, 5%, and 10%.
2. A 100 m deep basin with a slope of 5% is observed to have a constant potential temperature deficit of 1K adjacent to the slope. Assume that the environmental potential temperature is 300 K.
- a. How long will it take for an air parcel to travel from the top of the slope to the base? Assume that the air parcel has no initial velocity at the top.
- b. How fast will the parcel be travelling when it reaches the bottom?
- c. Repeat parts (a) and (b) for a 1% slope. a 10% slope.
- d. Based on your results, do you expect drainage flows to be stronger or weaker at the base of shallow vs. steep slopes?
