Trips in the spring 1999

Cedar Breaks NM, Zion and Bryce Canyon NP

I did this trip during a 3 day weekend in the middle of March with a friend who came to visit. On Friday, right after the snow storm, we drove to Brian Head and then skied towards and on the rim of Cedar Breaks National Monument. That night we camped in the Quail Creek State Park. On Saturday we hiked in the Zion Natl. Park, Angel's Landing trail, in particular, and camped in the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park. On Sunday, after checking out the dunes, we stopped in Bryce Canyon N.P. for a while.

Moab and surroundings

Another friend came to visit in the end of March, so another 3 day weekend I went to the Moab area. First night we camped in the Dead Horse Point State Park. On Friday we looked around the Dead Horse Point, hiked a bit in the Canyonlands N.P. , Island in the Sky area and in the afternoon did a few small hikes in the Arches N.P. (Windows and Delicate Arch trails). We camped in one of the BLM campgrounds in the Colorado River valley. Half of Saturday we still spent in the Arches, hiked the Devils Garden trail, and in the afternoon drove a loop road from Colorado River valley thru the La Sal Mountains and back to Moab. We camped in a small BLM campsite right next to the Canyonlands, Needles area entrance. On Sunday we hiked whole day in the Needles, about 12 miles around the Chesler Park area.

Other side of Zion NP

I made this trip in the middle of May together with several Czechs living in SLC (thus it was a typical Czech trip, with a camp fire, guitar, beer...). We hiked a canyon off the Kolob Terrace Road in the western part of Zion NP one day, and then checked out the canyon from the top, approaching it from another side.
