Long weekend around Sun Valley, Id.

24.6. - 27.6. 2004

Short summary

A trip to meet Gary in Sun Valley at the end of his conference and do some riding in the area over the weekend.

I took off on Wednesday afternoon and drove to Rock Creek area of South Hills, southeast of Twin Falls. South Hills are relatively round and reach about 8000 ft. Here I planned longer ride on a network of motorcycle trails. I had a quiet night on the Third Fork trailhead and rode from 9am to 3pm. Clickable map and fotos are here.
Then I drove to Sun Valley and accomodated myself in Gary's condo.

Gary had last talk session on Friday morning, so, I rode from the condo to Bald Mountain, which is the main ski area. The upper trails were closed due to elk calving, so, I rode up to the middle of the mountain. Clickable map and fotos are here.
In the afternoon we drove to the North Fork campground about 10 miles north of Ketchum, and rode from there into Oregon Gulch area. Clickable map and fotos are here.

On Saturday we drove to Adams Gulch trailhead and rode the loop, just finishing before it started raining. Clickable map and fotos are here.
The rest of the afternoon was overcast with occasional rain, which made Gary to decide to take off. I survived through the afternoon and night rain thanks to laptop entertainment.

I planned to ride around Greenhorn Gulch on Sunday, but, the trails there were very muddy, especially on my Panaracer XC Pro tires, which are mud magnets. So, I drove to Hailey to wash the bike off and then rode a paved/dirt road loop east of town. Clickable map and fotos are here. I was done with this in about 3.5 hours and then drove home.
