Fall trip to the Northwest

15.9. - 23.9. 2005

Short summary

A road trip with my parents to see Idaho and Oregon.

We left SLC on Thursday early morning, and around 10am I set out for a ride around Greenhorn Gulch near Sun Valley. Clickable map and fotos are here. Then we drove through Stanley and Lowman to Pine Flats campground on the bank of South Fork Payette River for the night.
On Friday I went for a ride on Deadwood Ridge. Clickable map and fotos are here. Parents lied in the hot springs. Then we drove to Boise where I took care of the wounds incurred in a crash.
We stayed in Boise at Shelly's mom over the weekend, then drove into Oregon on Sunday to camp at Deschutes River SP.
On Monday, we drove into Columbia River gorge and did a loop hike around Multnomah and Wakheena falls. Clickable map and fotos are here. Then we drove to a couple of viewpoints and then to Portland.
On Tuesday we drove to the coast and followed it south, stopping at beaches, etc. It was relatively chilly so we were happy to camp in a sheltered creek valley in Beverly Beach SP.
Wednesday morning we spent in port town of Newport and then drove further south hiking a bit on the way. We stayed in a Forest Service campground at Oregon Dunes.
On Thursday we said goodbye to the ocean and through Eugene drove to Bend. We stopped at the MacKenzie Pass where I hiked quickly to Belknap Crater. Clickable map and fotos are here.
On Friday I wanted to hike South Sister, but we woke up into rain in Bend, and the barely visible mountains showed snow level around 4500 ft, so, we decided to pack it up and drive home.
